The Counter of Death is a skills-based game that pays homage to Asian martial arts films and to the video game icon, Irem Kung-Fu Master. However, the controls change from arcade to minigame.
In the game, you have to go up an infinite tower in order to rescue your beloved. Your character will move automatically until you come face to face with an enemy. At that point you have to protect the upper or lower part of your character, depending on the enemy’s gestures, using the buttons. Your survival depends on your skill and response time.
To start off you have two lives and an energy bar that will recharge itself. When the energy bar is full, you can deliver a fatal strike to the strongest enemies that come your way. Also, before each match the game will tell you the number of hits you have to avoid in order to deliver the fatal strike.
The Counter of Death is filled with characters and situations that reference the Jackie Chan movies, Bruce Lee and Donnie Yen.
